Built on patience,
brewed with care.
Lecus was founded by two childhood friends who met again at a coffee tasting in 2016. They had grown up in the same neighbourhood in Uppsala, lost touch for years, and found each other again over a cup of Ethiopian natural process that neither of them could stop talking about.
By 2018 they had found a corner space in Södermalm, painted the walls themselves, and opened without a sign. No marketing, no launch party. Just coffee, a handwritten menu, and the quiet hope that someone would walk in.
Word spread the way it should — slowly, through people who genuinely loved the place. A neighbour told a colleague. A journalist came in on a Tuesday and wrote nothing, but came back every week for a year. That felt like enough.
When the pandemic hit in 2020, Lecus went takeaway only. No outdoor seating, no app. Just a window, a handwritten note on the door, and eleven regulars who showed up every single morning. That loyalty defined everything that came after.
In 2022 we established direct trade with three farms — in Ethiopia, Colombia, and Guatemala. Our roaster flew to Yirgacheffe that autumn. He came back with twelve kilos of green beans and a notebook full of ideas. The coffee has been different since.
Six years on, little has changed. The space is the same. The beans are better, the menu a little longer. There are still eleven regulars who have been coming every morning since day one. We are not in a hurry. We never were.
